Car at the Gate
A car does not stop at the gate. It breaks the barrier.
Free English practice: three scenarios on a base
Three military scenarios, each told two ways: Fast and Clear, or Full and Detailed. Choose a scenario, then a way.
Different people, different English. Choose by who is listening, and try both. Know the formal words? Saying it simply is often the harder skill. Know the simple way? Learn the other words you may meet.
A car does not stop at the gate. It breaks the barrier.
About 80 people protest at the base fence and push it.
Off duty, you see a drone near the comms building.
One way for all three: Fast and Clear
For teachers: Fast and Clear can be followed from about A2 and is practice for every level, native speakers too; Full and Detailed is written for B1 to B2. Neither is the advanced version. Informal guides, with reference to CEFR and STANAG 6001.
Please note: These are made-up stories for English practice only. They are not real orders or military training. They are not from NATO.
